Curriculum

At Maidenhill School, we strive to provide a broad and balanced curriculum that nurtures academic excellence, personal growth, and lifelong learning. Our intent is to empower every student with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to succeed in a rapidly changing world, while fostering their emotional, social, and physical well-being. Our curriculum is designed to meet the needs of our diverse community, reflecting our commitment to inclusivity and high expectations.

Our curriculum is structured to:

  • Promote high academic standards: We offer a rigorous and inclusive curriculum that challenges students at all levels, supporting both academic achievement and personal aspirations.
  • Develop critical thinking and problem-solving: Subjects across the curriculum aim to foster curiosity, analytical thinking, and creativity, enabling students to apply knowledge in real-world contexts.
  • Ensure progression and coherence: We design our curriculum so that learning is sequenced effectively from the Year 6 Primary curriculum through to what students will progress on to in Year 12, building on prior knowledge while preparing students for GCSEs and post-16 pathways.
  • Prepare for future opportunities: Students are encouraged to consider a range of future opportunities, whether academic, vocational, or professional, through guidance in careers education and post-16 preparation.

All students study the same broad and balanced curriculum up to the end of Year 9 where we teach at least the National Curriculum. Most subjects are taught in mixed ability groups throughout KS3, with streaming in Maths, Science and Modern Foreign Languages where possible. We work hard to ensure this is done at an appropriate pace and depth to secure a good level of understanding for further development at KS4.
