Homework

Studying effectively at home and at school

Homework is an integral part of the learning process. In some cases, it may be that students need to learn and apply new content, whereas at other times it could be focused on the consolidation of learning from lessons. Some subjects would expect the attendance at extracurricular opportunities also. Homework will be posted through our ClassCharts platform, which is visible to both parents/carers and students.

Homework  for Year 7, 8 and 9

Regular study tasks are set for all students to support the work completed in lessons and to promote independent learning, alongside retention and retrieval practice.  Tasks are set weekly in English, languages, maths and science and fortnightly in other subjects.   There may also be preparation to do in advance of specific DT lessons including preparation of ingredients. Students are expected to actively revise prior to tests and assessments, and this will be supported through our tutor time programme.  In addition, students should be spending at least 30 minutes per week on reading.

HOMEWORK for Year 10 and 11
Students will see an increase in the expectations placed upon them at Key Stage 4 when they start their GCSE and Level 2 courses. Tasks will be set in all subjects and will be varied depending on the needs of the course being studied. The timetables below have been created to support students in managing their work by spreading the load. We advise that homework is completed on the day that it is set so that further support can be sought by students if needed. It is imperative that students meet the deadlines set by their teachers so that feedback is timely and appropriate. Students should also supplement their homework time with review and revision activities to improve retention and retrieval.

How can parents/carers support with homework

How can parents/carers support with homework
Parents and carers can help by providing a reasonably peaceful, suitable place in which students can complete their homework. They can also support by making it clear that they value the homework  tasks set and support the school in ensuring its completion. Taking an interest in the tasks and feedback their child received will also help to positively reinforce the importance of the homework process.

additional support from Maidenhill school
Students are able to use the school facilities after the school day has ended to complete their homework tasks and are encouraged to do so.  Study Zone is open to all students and takes place in CR3 every day afterschool from 3-4pm.  Students have access to computers and study desks to complete tasks set. Students with additional needs are also invited to attend Study Support in the Learning Support department afterschool where additional support is provided by Learning Support Assistants.
